Robert Fico

Robert Fico has been Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic since 2012, now serving in his second term in the office after the 2006-2010 government. Between 2010 and 2012, he served as Deputy Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. Robert Fico was first elected Member of Parliament in 1992 as a Party of Democratic Left candidate. In 1999, he co-founded and became Chairman of the Smer-Social Democracy party. In 1994-2000, he worked as the Slovak Government representative at the European Council of Human Rights and European Commission of Human Rights. He was also a member of the Slovak delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe serving as Head of Delegation in 1999-2001. Robert Fico graduated from the Law Faculty of Comenius University, Bratislava, in 1986 and received his Ph.D. in 1992 at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He habilitated in 2002, becoming Assistant Professor in Law.
